The 2007/08 HRINZ Young HR Practitioner of the Year

goes to:

Matt Carter

Matt impressed us as a person who aligns his work life with his personal values

In a short time he has had a breadth of experience across a range of industries, both private and public sector and has demonstrated his ability to tailor HR solutions to the business cultures.

In his current role as GM HR at Otago Polytechnic he reports directly to the CEO and has influenced throughout the organisation on a number of both HR and general business initiatives. For example he is building credibility in the national HR Polytechnic tertiary sector and has raised the bar on expectation of and delivery from the HR team within the Polytechnic.

There are three major imperatives that Matt is fronting:

- management development,

- revenue diversification strategy and the

- development of new KPI’s across the business for the new funding environment.

Matt has obviously made a significant impression with key decision makers including the Chairman of the Board who has said “in my view Matt has made a significant difference to the ability of Otago Polytechnic to deliver on his aims”.

Over the last few years Otago Polytechnic has seen significant improvements in the perceptions of staff of their working environment, their structures and wellness, and there is no doubt that a major impact on this has been the HR team and associated policies that the institution has implemented”.

Congratulations Matt
